Tufton Warren Farm was a thriving working farm with a collection of historical agricultural buildings that were lying unused and were in need of restoration. Acknowledging the need for diversification within the farming industry, the farm’s owner, Helen Butler, sought to explore the commercial opportunities that the unused buildings presented.
After deciding to transform the farm buildings into a wedding venue, the challenge facing Helen was how to establish Clock Barn as a front-runner in such a competitive industry as a previously non-existent venue.
Clock Barn held its first wedding in 2004 and after realising the potential but identifying the challenges ahead, Helen sought advice from wedding industry experts and, in 2006, we were introduced to Clock Barn following a personal recommendation from Nicholas Hextall FRICS, director and land management specialist at estate agency John D Wood & Co.
Our first step was to advise upon the restoration and refurbishment of Clock Barn. Although no major building work was required, extensive weatherproofing and the refurbishment of the barn’s interior was essential.
All of the interior renovation was designed and completed fully utilising the rustic charm of the barn’s original features. The renovation included the addition of a beautiful bridal preparation room, kitchens and bathrooms and other facilities, transforming the redundant building into an attractive wedding venue.
Following the extensive renovation and refurbishment work, we continued to provide guidance, with our Chairman Diana Hastie and members of our Sales and Marketing Team regularly visiting the barn, in a consultative role advising on areas ranging from the presentation of the barn to the best way to show guests around the venue. In addition, we also provided Clock Barn with key insight into best practices, preferred suppliers, license applications and in 2010 built and launched Clock Barn’s website.
Since Clock Barn launched as an exclusive wedding venue the number of weddings held at the barn has increased exponentially.
Clock Barn has now earned its reputation as one of the foremost wedding venues in Hampshire, holding close to 100 weddings each year. Since its launch, the traffic to Clock Barn’s website has increased by 252 per cent.
As a result, Clock Barn is now in a strong position to complete restoration work on additional farm buildings to improve further the quality of the site through the income generated from weddings. The venue has an excellent reputation within the industry and contributes substantially to the local economy.
